UNDER EYES
Do you look more tired than you feel?
Do you always have dark circles under your eyes?
You are not alone! The under-eye area is the most delicate area of the face, both for men and women alike. Under eye bags, dark circles and a hollowed-out look under the eyes can make you look exhausted and older than your actual age, even when you are well-rested.
1. Dark eye circle
- Fatigue is the most common cause of dark circles under your eyes. However do you know that what appear to be dark circles under your eyes may only be shadows cast by hollowness under your eyes that develop as a normal part of aging.
- Among other reasons of dark eye circles are: allergies, contact dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, hereditary, pigmentation irregularities, Rubbing or scratching your eyes, Sun exposure, or Thinning skin and loss of fat and collagen
- After assessing the true cause of dark eye circle, definitive approach may be suggested in the form of dermal filler, chemical peel, laser therapy or platelet rich plasma to help recovery of dark eye circles.
What causes dark circles and bags under the eyes
Darkness in the tear trough area is often genetic, and some people naturally have sunken eyes to varying degrees, which cast shadows underneath the lid.
But there are a number of other issues that can also cause dark circles and bags under the eyes. These include:
• aging
• poor sleep patterns
• smoking
• dehydration
• UV exposure
Aging can cause sunken eyes and a dark, hollow look. Tear troughs – those dark circles under the eyes – are a result of a weakened orbital septum and a loss of plump soft tissue in the cheek area. This happens because, as we age, the pockets of fat under the eye may dissipate or drop, causing a deep separation between the under-eye area and the cheeks.
If you think your eyes look tired and worn out, even when you are well rested, eye fillers (also called tear trough fillers) may be an option for you.
However, keep in mind that eye fillers are most effective for people who have dark under-eye hollows caused by genetics or aging, as opposed to lifestyle factors. In fact, if you smoke or vape, you might not be a good candidate for under eye fillers.
What are under-eye fillers
Under-eye fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid treatments that can be used to treat volume loss and dark areas underneath the eyes.
Non-surgical and minimal invasive, tear trough fillers are an effective way to treat wrinkles, the hollowed-out look under the eyes and dark circles, for a soft and natural effect.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are made of a transparent gel that mimics the natural substance that our bodies produce. They are easy to smooth, less likely to clump, and have been shown to support collagen production in the skin, which further plumps and smooths the skin over time.
How under-eye fillers work
Non-surgical and minimal invasive, tear trough fillers are an effective way to treat wrinkles, the hollowed-out look under the eyes and dark circles, for a soft and natural effect.
It is important to distinguish dark circles caused by loss of volume and/or genetics from dark circles caused by hyperpigmentation in the area. So, if you are interested in improving the appearance of the area under your eyes, the first step is to book a consultation with Dr Teo at Vogue Clinic. He will be able to assess what is causing the issue and recommend a combination of treatments, which could include under eye fillers.
The process of having a dermal filler injected is simple and straightforward. A numbing cream is applied to the area before the injections, making the procedure completely painless.
After waiting a few minutes for the numbing cream to take effect, the filler is injected with blunt headed cannula which is risk free and devoid of bruising issue. Dr Teo may gently massage the area to make sure the filler is in place.
The entire procedure usually takes under an hour, there is no downtime or recovery period, and patients can go back to their normal activities immediately after.
Results
After the procedure, you will start to notice results right away and then they only get better over the next two weeks. Under eye fillers give subtle, natural results that won’t make you look radically different. But once the results have taken full effect, your eyes and your overall face will look more relaxed, refreshed, and younger.
Under eye fillers tend to last longer when injected under the eyes than in other parts of the face. Unlike the lips, forehead, and other parts of the face that are constantly in motion, the skin beneath the eyes largely stays in place, so results can last for up to 12-16 months. The effects of repeat treatments tend to last even longer.
Side Effects and Contraindications
Any potential side effects will be discussed during a pre-treatment consultation with Dr Teo.
In general, fillers are considered very safe for most people. However, as with any treatments that involve injections, patients might experience a few temporary side effects such as swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, itching and sensitivity at the point of application for a few days after the procedure.
Please note that you may experience slight swelling or bruising from 48 hours-one week after treatment, so do plan ahead if you have an important occasion. Any swelling should subside within 48 hours.
Patients should avoid exercise for twenty-four hours after the procedure to minimize swelling. After this time, it will take approximately two weeks for the results to settle.
2. Eye Bag Removal in Malaysia (Non-Surgical)
- Mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes are common as you age. With aging, the tissues around your eyes, including some of the muscles supporting your eyelids, weaken. Normal fat that helps support the eyes can then move into the lower eyelids, causing the lids to appear puffy. Fluid also may accumulate in the space below your eyes, adding to the swelling.
- Several factors can lead to this, including: Fluid retention due to changes in weather (hot, humid days), hormone levels or eating salty foods, not getting enough sleep, Allergies or dermatitis.
- In the past, going under the knife was the only aesthetic treatment for the removal of eye bags that many of us find problematic. With the advent of dermal filler, it is able to be placed deep beneath the under-eye muscle offering the same results as surgery, for at least 10 months and often much longer.
- Non-surgical eye bag removal at our clinic involves the use of hyaluronic acid dermal filler, injected underneath the actual eye bag. With only one access point, the trough is then filled, lifting the under-eye area up. The treatment takes less than 10 minutes, and the results are instantaneous and a follow-up treatment is needed for fine tuning.
